Description: Edward Rowe Snow, "Legends, Maps and Stories of Boston and New England," Prescott Publishing, 1965. This is the ultra-rare version "e" limited edition from the Claflin bibliography of Snow. The book itself is tight and square with marbled boards, 62 pps. Also included in this set is eight maps of the New England coast and, in this set, a 1980 paperback of "Minot's Light" that was part of the previous owner's collection (his name is stamped on the cover of the booklet and the slipcase). All comes in a slipcase with some rubbing (see photos) and which has been lightly signed by Edward Rowe Snow (see photo). TITANIC part: In the back of the hardcover book is an envelope containing a piece of paper with four wood chips from various legendary ships: The Andria Doria, The America, The Constitution and the RMS Titanic. The envelope has come unglued from the book cover, and the Constitution wood chip has come unglued from the card. The Titanic wood is still affixed to the card that credits Borden Clarke for supplying this wood. Snow got the Titanic wood from Borden Clarke, who was at the dock in Halifax, Nova Scotia when some of the famous ship's wreckage was brought in. He took pieces for souvenirs, as many people did, and later gave some Titanic wood to Snow, a famous 20th century maritime historian. Snow took some of that wood - allegedly a piece of the deck - and cut it into roughly one-inch wood chips. Copies of this set are nearly impossible to find. One came up at auction 20 years ago, but this is the only one we've ever seen in person. Own a small piece of the Titanic.
