The handle has marks commensurate with use. The lock works, and comes with a key (pictured, in the little black leather pouch tied to the briefcase). Dimensions are 12" x 18 1/2" x 2" when closed. The inside compartments are clean and sturdy, and when expanded, this can accommodate a full sized laptop and few binders or books. There is also a zippered pouch section on the back.
