Acquired from the original owner by the current owner. In 1926, Bermúdez enrolled at the Havana Institute, and in 1930, he joined the National School of Fine Arts San Alejandro, where he studied painting for two years. In 1934, he began his studies in Law and Social Sciences at the University of Havana, graduating in 1941. Later, he traveled to Mexico and studied at the Academy of San Carlos. In 1949, he was a co-founder of the Association of Painters and Sculptors of Cuba (APEC). In 1942, Cundo Bermúdez achieved a milestone in his career by presenting his first solo exhibition of watercolors and gouaches at the prestigious Lyceum of Havana. Just two years later, his participation in a prominent exhibition of modern Cuban painting at the Museum of Modern Art in New York propelled him to the recognition of New York critics. During this period, Cundo's work began to take shape, delineating a distinctive style that would accompany him in the ensuing decades, especially from the 1950s. His artistic approach was characterized by a constant interplay between planes and volumes, representation, and abstraction. Although he occasionally delved into landscape painting, still lifes, portraits, musicians, and acrobats, what unmistakably defined his work were scenes drawn from the Cuban environment and domestic interiors, which gradually evolved into mythical spaces of great beauty and significance.CUNDO BERMUDEZ.
