This is a vintage hand carved original.Wood carving sign, the bottom says “Land-Ho Tavern”, Rooms & Victuals Transients Welcome.A beautiful piece of art made of genuine chiseled wood.The sign stands 23 ½” tall x 5 ¾” wide x 1 ¾” deep.A unique piece of a folk-art sea captain nautical wall hanging / sign.The carving is made in the primitive folk art style of the 1700’s but dates to the 1970’s time period.I don’t know the exact history of this carving, but from what I have researched it looks to be a 20th century carving by George Nathan.This company was from Providence, Rhode Island and produced hand carved and hand painted reproduction folk art carvings, signs and plaques.This one depicts a sea captain looking through some type of instrument.This is not a flat sign, it is an actual thicker carving.The artist who made this used brown paint and light blue paint plus some flesh coloring.There are the appropriate “rubbed” areas to mimic the effects of time and the elements.It is in very good condition and would be perfect in a vintage type bar area.It is large, solid and the carving looks amazing.This piece was from a family collection and is in excellent condition considering it’s age.There are no tags or packaging.
