It was indeed the Gilded Age, intricate and fanciful in a bold flourish. During this era, jewellery, clothing and architecture were busy with gingerbread and adornment, showcasing the extraordinary talents of Old-World craftsmen. It was the best of times and better; it was opulent and celebratory and optimistic. This Victorian-inspired wristlet watch in 14kt white gold plate is such a celebration of tactile art. DETAILS: Case: ‘Bernice’ model. Distinctive and with superbly elegant style. The rectangular shaped case with cut corners is richly embellished throughout. Original & signed ‘Bulova’ on the inside of case back. The 14kt white gold plated bezel and case back have been cleaned & repolished and fitted with a new acrylic crystal. In general the case looks great with minimal wear/scratches commensurate with the age of the watch. Crown: Original, blue sapphire tipped, looking great. Dial: Immaculate and highly noticeable, complementing the distinctiveness of the case, the oval dial has been professionally refinished in a silver tone and has an intricate stripped effect with chasing to the border which contrasts wonderfully with the plain outer area. The ‘Bulova’ name and numerals are in black. Hands: Hour and minute hands are original to the watch, blue/black steel, ‘Modern’ style. Excellent. Movement: BULOVA high quality Swiss manual wind movement. This is a fine classic 6AF calibre with 15 jewels marked with a square symbol for 1927. The movement has been cleaned, oiled & adjusted, and is running well, keeping good time ready to wear. As with all vintage watches regular servicing is recommended. Size: Tonneau shaped, measures approx. 26.81mm excluding the lugs X 17.15mm at the widest point excluding the crown. Band: The watch has been fitted with new ‘Finesse’ black cord band with 14kt white RGP clasps complementing the watch perfectly. The band is approx. 168mm long. ________________________________________________________________________________ General comments: This is an outstanding example of a lady’s Bulova ‘Bernice’ manual wind watch from 1927 which has been restored to appeal once again.
