The result is that the lateral side-to-side motion is still permitted, BUT it is cushioned to prevent the associated clunk/knock noise. WARNING - Many online videos and blogs INCORRECTLY state to add a flat steel or plastic washer to fill the gap in the upper leg location to fix the clunk/knock noise. The GAP IS INTENTIONAL AND BY-DESIGN and the gap MUST remain and so you do NOT ever want to add any other type of washer in that upper leg location except for these specially designed wave washers!
