Description: This auction is for one (1) NOS B-17 Flying Fortress EMERGENCY DOOR RELEASE HANDLE ASSY Buyer's choice of Cosmoline-coated original OR cleaned Here is a vintage, New Old Stock Assembly made by Boeing during WWII specifically for the Waist Door of the Flying Fortress. Two short stainless steel pins on stainless cables make up the Door's hinge pins and the longer, middle stainless pin secures the strap that prevents the door from opening too far. This is the Handle crewmen pulled in order to jettison the door—or panel—so they could bail out of their stricken bomber. Image above shows Harry Carey's character Sgt. Robbie White in the movie AIR FORCE right after he pulls the Emergency Door Release in his B-17D named MARY ANN. Note the B-17D door's rounded edges as compared to square edges in the previous shot of a later model. This genuine WWII B-17 Flying Fortress artifact is in excellent unused condition and has the standard red-painted handle. Comes complete with its original factory aluminum part tag stamped with the BOEING 'totem pole' & inspector's personal number. CUSTOMER'S CHOICE: Either as it's been stored for the past 8 decades coated in Cosmoline & wrapped in cellophane OR cleaned (like the one on top). Please indicate your choice when ordering.
