B CLASS S 2/6 4-4-4 Importer - FULGUREX builder - ASTER-HOBBY Japan RARE EXCELLENT model This Gauge 1 (DC operation) Brass Model is an accurate replica and matches the livery of Museum's preserved S 2/6 locomotive in Germany. ASTER’s brass construction uses a Japanese alloy of superior strength. The model has robust, rigid construction with no fragile parts to fall off in your hands. This fabrication was rated for live steam exterior use. Regarding differences between this ASTER-FULGUREX S 2/6 brass model and MARKLIN’s recent S 2/6 metal / plastic model, the following comments can be made: The proportions and paint finishes on this Aster model make it very attractive compared to Marlin's S 2/6 model. ASTER’s paint is a lacquer / enamel solvent base paint in a satin-gloss finish that exhibits more depth of color and luster, verses an eggshell finish on the MARKLIN’s model which renders a duller plastic looking finish; the ASTER’s front boiler nose-cone is more elongated and the curved shrouding below on the pilot is more streamlined hugging tight to the cylinder chests; the ASTER’s wheel rods are brushed stainless slightly darkened verses MARKLIN’s stainless steel rods that have a polished chrome reflective finish. Overall, the big difference is MARKLIN’s digital operation with a sound and an articulated moving cab figure which bring more life to model when operated. ASTER’s model is rare since, less than 100 were built including Live-Steam and 2-Rail, DC Electric versions. ASTER’s original paint is in excellent condition, but there are minor imperfections that are hardly noticeable, see photos. Model operates very well. On a range of 1-10, the running noise is about 2. Motor is fully concealed in boiler. Motor provides slow creep action. All wheels pick-up power from rails except the pilot wheels All wheels have adequate flanges and hold onto the tracks, especially at curves for smooth operation. All front and rear lights work. Cab interior is open with essential back-head boiler details. Cab Windows are open.
