Description: A quality antique, decorative and useful hard paste porcelain, low footed, loop handled, hors d'ouevre dish in the form of two conjoined ribbed shallow oval bowls. It has been decorated with with black red and blue enamelled flowers and birds with gilded highlighting On the base there is an under glaze cobalt blue maker's mark of KPM. This is the mark for the Krister Porzellan-Manufaktur which was established in 1831 by Carl Franz Krister in Waldenburg in Saxony in Germany. Krister owned a kaolin quarry near Meissen and a quartz source near Schrieberkau. His strategy for his company was to make good quality porcelain in imitation of, and competition with, the Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur of Berlin. In the 1850's the Krister factory was one of leading European porcelain manufacturers and in 1852 and 1867 Krister factory received awards in the International Exposition in Paris. The hors d'ouevre dish we believe dates to around 1860, the mark was used between 1840 and 1900. It is in good antique condition, there is some wear to the gilding and enamel, there are no chips, cracks, nor restoration. Please see the images. A nice example for a collector of KPM porzellan.
