Description: Up for sale is an adorable and unusual miniature/toy stoneware jug. It's got a fat round "beehive" form body with wide shoulder tapering into a very narrow spout, with a thin and delicate arching strap handle applied low on the neck and at mid shoulder. The base is signed by the potter, "Marie" in the form of a handwritten stamp. Its clay is a very dark reddish brown. After being thrown it was dipped upside down (you can see the fingerprints) into a very attractive thick speckled chocaletey brown glaze. It's only a bit over 2 1/4" tall and 1 5/8" across the base. I've been unable to identify "Marie" but there's no doubt that this is an old, early 1900s piece. I acquired this piece from a Louisiana picker so I figured it would be safe to look South, and sure enough, the only similar example I can find online was sold a number of years ago and identified as an Alabama piece. It shares the same tiny size, narrow spout, thin handle, and is also stamped "Marie" on its base. If anyone recognizes this potter, do feel free to let me know! It is in perfect condition with some typical wear along the bottom outer edge. It is a miracle the tiny handle didn't snap in half at any point. Truly nothing wrong with this jug! Satisfaction guaranteed, if you're not in love after handling it in person I'm happy to accept returns. Shipped via USPS Priority Mail at buyer's expense, or pickup in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.
