Antique Axel Nilsson "Swedish Steel" Straight Razor Etched Woman Hair Scales

The blade's tang is marked, "Axel Nilsson, Stockholm." Axel Nilsson products were sold by J.M. Thompson Hardware, based in Minneapolis. The razor has translucent, beige marbled celluloid scales that are molded on both sides in the familiar woman/hair pattern, but the celluloid has a subtle iridescence and depth, like pearl nacre, or fine horn, especially at the center on both sides (see pictures). A hot needle melted a tiny hole, so I assume it's celluloid. But it looks like pressed bovine horn. The blade shows little evidence of hone wear. There are no nicks in the cutting edge and it's free of any cracks. The blade has a 2 3/4 inch cutting edge and seems to be the original full length. The blade is mostly free of surface rust and pitting. The scales aren't warped but they have a stable crack on one side at the toe and someone lightly etched their name into one side (see pictures). The blade fits snugly between the scales. Insurance is required on all shipments and will be charged with a handling fee and included in the shipping quote. Handling fee reflects Ebay’s change in policy where they now charge the seller a 10% commission on the shipping costs.
