The Ruby color enhances the intricately designed patterns of the cut crystal. Condition: No visible chips or cracks. There are a couple of small spots on the red glass that you can see in the photos. Hofbauer Crystal Co. of West Germany produced this gorgeous collectible pattern in the mid to late 1900's. With the construction of railroads in the late 1800's, transport of materials became easier and the glassmaking industry flourished in Northern Bavaria. Glassmaking had been a part of the heritage of this area now had opportunity to experience great growth as products and materials could be moved much more easily.Many glassmakers established businesses in this area and Hofbaouer was one of them. The companies thrived through the the mid 1900's, but eventually closed in the late 1900's. Hofbauer Byrdes 24% Lead Crystal has a traditional pressed pattern with intricately cut features. The bird design is cut into the glass giving a rich three dimensional pattern to the style. Highly collectible and quite rare. The bowl will be packed in a box inside of a box for added protection.
