Description: Regal Shields is a beautiful Alocasia/Elephant Ear that has a couple of unique features. It's not really velvety, but it's also not slick/skin-like (the very finest polishing sandpaper). Kind of matte with clear veins on the top of the leaves. The bottoms are a brown/burgundyish with bright, nearly neon, green veins. You can see in the picture how well you can see the vascular system of these leaves as the light shines through them (last pic). They grow 3 - 5 ft. and do great in pots. Don't leave them out in freezing temperatures. Low - mid 40's should be tolerated, but I wouldn't risk lower. Water when slightly dry, and sometimes a good flooding is good but don't leave sitting in soggy soil that doesn't drain and that can 'breathe' well. Fertilize every other month or so. Protect from the hottest direct sun - dappled, early full sun is fine. Don't leave out in freezing temperatures (has returned in zone 8 after freezes). Give it a good breathe-able (Perlite added), jungly soil that holds a little moisture, but drains well. The plant pictured is the plant offered. Ships bare-root.
