Description: ‘Iris, Rushes and Burweed’ woodcut engraving after Agnes Miller Parker; 1895–1980, Scottish engraver and illustrator. Born in Ayrshire. Printed for; Down The River by H. E. Bates 1930’s. An antique woodcut engraving which has retained its colour, bright and unfaded, in black ink, the image printed on a medium wove paper sheet measuring approximately 15 cm x 25 cm (6 x 10 ins.) Unframed and unmounted, blank on the reverse, the condition of the image and the sheet is good with handling marks condusive with age. She studied at the Glasgow School of Art from 1911 to 1917, and joined the staff of the School for a short period. In 1918 she married the painter, William McCance; and thereafter passed most of her career in London and southern Britain. In 1955 she moved to Glasgow. She then lived at Lamlash on the Isle of Arran. She died in 1980 at Greenock.
