See our provided pictures for description. No knives are included and are in the pictures as an example of packet description only. Each packet measures about 1.5 inches in length by .5 inches in width. As sold by us these are primarily intended for knife enthusiasts and collectors. We are offering small desiccant packets for the purpose of using one each with your pocket knives. We find these work well with a small humidity-resistant type zip-close plastic bag but they work fine in a manufacture's original knife box or together with the knife in a pouch. Non Toxic-Non poisonous. Depending on your storage environment, an airtight bag can be a problem if you have trapped moisture inside and it settles on and therefore into your expensive knife steel and other knife components. In a breathable environment the desiccant packet will absorb and hold ambient moisture more quickly and will be rendered useless in weeks, if not sooner. We keep one small packet with each knife no matter the storage. In time, if the packet gets stiff or hard, it is then discarded. We throw a few in our larger knife cases typically housing 20 knives. We do this with guns and fasteners and tools too. Larger packets are great for this and we occasionally scavenge extras when we can. The problem is, when do they stop performing? Spending a two or three dollars every six months and replacing a small unobtrusive packet is worth it! If you're not into the idea of putting rechargeable packets in the oven and "recharging" them once in a while, picking up several little ones cheaply, once in a while, can be more convenient. Most of us chase down the extra oil on our knives and wipe it off. As oil weeps out from the pivot, detent, bearings, etc., we wipe it off. Soon, there is almost no oil and moisture finds its way everywhere. Any foreign material, I.E. dirt, makes this worse. Bearings are often affected more than the blade face and edge and most of us rarely see our knife bearings. Letting bearings rust and become imperfect while riding against the knife frame and the knife blade can cause excessive and accelerated wear on parts. This does not ever have to occur. You can use several packets as needed and even use much larger packets where you like but these smaller .5 gram packets we offer are perfect to keep next to the knife and more importantly this small size can slip under most pocket clips on most pocket knives. Silica Gel Desiccant packets do not last forever and should be changed once in a while. Some change color when they have served their usefulness and many are "rechargeable" by drying them out in an oven. There are how-to videos online to most effectively reuse rechargeable types of these packets. Most decent silica gel packs come only in bulk and are not worth the expense for the small amount we really need. If you buy too many and do not store them properly, there is a good chance they will lose their usefulness by the time you need one. When in an enclosed small space just one of these packets will absorb potentially harmful moisture keeping your knife protected from oxidation. Of course you should store your knife in a dry place whenever possible and maintain a light / thin coat of oil on surfaces. We use gun oil, knife oil, even mineral oil and WD-40 depending on convenience. It's easy to wipe off a knife and remove any unwanted lubricant before use. Take care of your knife and your knife will take care of you! Buy one order containing five .5 gram packets of desiccant. They will come in a six inch long by two-inch wide zip-enclosure plastic bag that can hold most regular size pocket knives. We recommend storing the unused packets in this bag until needed to avoid moisture. * When we sell pocket knives on eBay and our on our website we usually place the knife in a sealed plastic bag with a packet of Silica Gel Desiccant, and then securely pack and ship.
