You may have seen this vintage book in the past, but not likely in this color. Bound in a red cloth with gold and black highlights, it is beautifully illustrated throughout featuring notable depictions of the story with captions (quotes from the book). This is an early 1875 printing of the classic, foundational, science fiction novel, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Seas, by Jules Verne, published by George M. Smith & Co., Boston. The book was published first in the US by Osgood as well, copies of which are extremely scarce due to a fire. This rare early copy from (sold only by subscription at the time) is a stunningly attractive book, with gilt lavished across a bright RED impressed and inked cover with 110 illustrations inside--a full-page engraving nearly every other leaf. The cover features some surface wear/fading, with some moderate rubbing and subsequent discoloration from age. See photos for details. The interior is clean with no names or markings. Both interior hinges are solid. The tissue guard for the frontispiece is still in tact and fine. The hinges and binding are both very tight and square, text and numerous illustrations are very clean, bright, and crisp. 303 pages. The book measures approximately 8.25 x 6 inches. Overall this is a very nice copy of a well loved literary classic. Thank you for looking.
