Description: This guitar was made by Harmony, but says Silvertone on the headstock. The model number stamped inside says "4704 H53." I can't find a reference to any Silvertone or Harmony 4704. The Harmony H-53 model is a totally different guitar, a thinline Rocket. This guitar looks exactly like an H-50, so that's what it is, despite the model stamped on it. The date stamp is "F-48" so the date is definitely 1948.It has a Gibson P-13 pickup, the precursor to the P-90. It is the non-pole-piece style. It has a thick archtop tone, especially when you turn it up. The H-62 is a more popular Harmony, and I have owned two of them, but this guitar is lighter and livelier. If you want to buy a Harmony archtop, this is the one I recommend. I used this guitar for many gigs. I don't know if I would call it "rare," but I've never seen another one. I bought this guitar for real cheap, and it had a wonky neck. I had a compression refret done on it which fixed it and made it play very easily. It has many dings, dents, and scrapes but overall it looks nice. Some of the purfling is missing. I did not replace any of the parts. I included several photos of the various dings. I'm shipping the guitar in a new case. However, the guitar only fits if you remove the bridge (which I have done; it's in the string compartment). Therefore, even though you get a brand new case, it is not part of the item that you are buying. Think of it as expensive packing material that you can use for a different guitar, or for this one if you don't mind removing the bridge when you put it in the case. Or you can sell the case. Just to make it clear: The guitar doesn't fit in the case unless you take the bridge off. That's part of the deal, and hey, a free case is a pretty good deal, even if it doesn't fit the guitar. It probably fits every other guitar; it's a big dreadnought case. I truly loved gigging with this guitar, especially for pretty loud jump blues. But I'm thinning the herd, I have another archtop to fill that niche, and this guitar needs a new home.
