1945 Germany Buchenwald Concentration Camp Cover Czech General Miroslav Miklik

Description: Up for auction is a beautiful rare stampless cover from a prisoner in the literally just liberated concentration camp of Buchenwald in Germany near Wiemar to the Czech National Committee in Prague, Czechoslovakia. Konzentrationlager KL Cover written on a neutral cover. Sender is a General Miroslav Miklik the last chief of staff of the Czech army who was imprisoned by the Nazis shortly after Czechoslovakia was annexed by Germany. What is amazing about this cover is the camp was liberated on April 11, 1945 by the US 9th Armored Infantry Battalion of the 6th Armored Division. The war in Europe ended on May 8, 1945 with Germany's unconditional surrender. After the war concentration camps continued to hold prisoners who were now classified as displaced persons. What is amazing about this cover was that it was mailed from a concentration camp so shortly after liberation, note Miklik still uses the KZ return address, and it made it to the Czech government in exile headquarters in Prague. This is the first concentration camp cover I have seen mailed postwar so soon after liberation. Note it is stampless. Very, very rare item. Priced to sell. Postmarked in Prague May 2, 1945.
