Description: Offered for sale is an early, clean Coleman double mantle lantern model 220B, with a manufacture date stamp of 0 9 for September 1930. It's possible that this stamp could also be interpreted as 6 0 for June 1930, but I believe the bail with cotter pins and keyhole frame slots places it later in 1930 and that the September 1930 date is more accurate. This lantern is in very good condition and has been disassembled, cleaned and leak tested after reassembly. The fuel cap gasket was replaced, and the brass parts have been cleaned and hand polished. The lantern pumps up, holds pressure for days, and passes air through the generator when the valve is opened. The fount is clean inside but has a couple minor dings, and some light oxidation and spotting of the nickel. It has the "Coleman Made in USA" side stamp that was found on early production. The fount has been cleaned and polished and has a nice shine. The burner is very clean, with most nickel plating remaining on the air and burner tubes. The long eccentric block and lack of a set screw in the air tube are indicators that this burner assembly is correct for 1930. The frame has no corrosion and only very minor pitting. Please refer to all the photos for further description. The valve has the filter screen and the brass direction disk that are correct for 1930 production. The generator is a used nickel plated T44DL (Double Life) that has been cleaned and has a new paper tube. It passes air when the valve is opened. The smooth winged 3-piece filler cap is also correct for this model but does show marks and loss of plating on the sides. The brimless green porcelain vent is correct for this lantern and there is some minor chipping of the porcelain on the top and around the stud hole as shown. The pitting on the vent underside is consistent with sulfuric acid damage caused by burning the poor gasoline quality of the 1930's. The mica chimney is a new reproduction handcrafted by Rob Butts, using large single panes of mica. I will include an NOS package of Coleman coarse weave Silk Lite mantles with the lantern. This is a classic early Coleman lantern that would look great for display or burning on your camp table. It survived its first 94 years in great condition and has been carefully restored to provide light for future generations. It will be carefully packed and promptly shipped upon receipt of payment.PLEASE NOTE: Shipping on this item is by insured USPS Parcel Select for domestic shipments and insured USPS Priority Mail International for foreign shipments.
