George Brackett Seitz (January 3, 1888 – July 8, 1944) was an American playwright, screenwriter, film actor and director. He was known for his screenplays for action serials, such as The Perils of Pauline (1914) and The Exploits of Elaine (1914).Seitz was born in Boston, Massachusetts, started his career as a playwright, and also wrote some fiction for "up-market" pulp magazines such as Adventure and People's Magazine.Seitz did much of his early work in Fort Lee, New Jersey when many other early film studios in America's first motion picture industry were based there. He was the director of more than one hundred films, the writer of more than thirty screenplays, and an actor in seven films. He worked at Columbia Pictures and at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer where he directed eleven films in the Andy Hardy series of the 1930s & 1940s. He died in Hollywood, California in 1944. Marguerite Gabrielle Courtot (August 20, 1897 – May 28, 1986) was an American silent film actress.Courtot became a child model and in June 1912, while not yet fifteen years old, joined the Kalem Company, appearing in 1913's The Riddle of the Tin Soldier alongside star Alice Joyce and Harry F. Millarde, who was making his film debut. Between then and 1916, Courtot made 37 films for Kalem, playing the starring role in The Ventures of Marguerite, a 16-episode action/adventure serial.Following the Kalem Company's merger with Vitagraph Studios, Courtot starred in the Gaumont Pictures production of The Dead Alive, directed by Henri J. Vernot. After several films with Jesse L. Lasky's Famous Players Film Company and smaller independents, Courtot took most of 1918 off to use her public persona to tour the country to promote America's World War I effort in Europe. When the war ended, she returned to film, joining Pathé. Harry Semels (November 20, 1887 – March 2, 1946) was an American film actor. He appeared in over 315 films between 1917 and 1946.Semels made his film debut in 1917. He appeared in several Three Stooges shorts for Columbia Pictures including Disorder in the Court, Wee Wee Monsieur and Three Little Sew and Sews. He also appeared in feature films like Road to Morocco, The Princess and the Pirate and The Kid from Brooklyn. A versatile character actor, Semels was often cast as villains, waiters, lawyers and soldiers.
