This particular logo was a little longer-lasting than the preceding logos, sticking around until 1930 when the square border was ditched in favor of just the Buick name.A little history about how we came across these little gems from one of the leading lithograph companies in the US in the late 19th and early 20th century.Recently it came to our attention there was printing company that was closing it's doors, owner retiring, and actioning off some modern printing equipment with a few older antique pieces, we decide to drop by and give a look. To our surprise there were several pallets of old "litho" lithographic stones in the back of the building that weren't listed in the auction. The stones represented some of the early Baltimore companies and some national ones as well. When we asked about the stones the current owner told us that they had come from the well know local Art Litho company here in Baltimore. He said he was friends the owner of the Art Litho, and when the owner closed his doors to retire in the very early 80's, he stored them there along with some older equipment. The owner of Art Litho has since passed and the he was left with the stones and equipment, and it was now his time to retire and is selling off all his euipment. We were able to make a deal on the spot and save these cool pieces of history from one of leading lithographic companies of it's time. Read below to learn a little more about the company and some of the famous prints they have produced over the years. Art Litho was a lithographic printing company in Baltimore, Maryland. It was founded in 1865 by Edward Sachse, a German immigrant who had learned the art of lithography in his native country. The company quickly became one of the leading lithographic printers in the United States, producing a wide variety of prints, including maps, cityscapes, portraits, and advertising posters. One of Art Litho's most famous prints is the "Panorama View of Baltimore" (1865). This large-format lithograph depicts the city as it appeared in the years following the Civil War. The print is notable for its accurate and detailed rendering of the city's many landmarks, including Fort McHenry, the Battle Monument, and the Washington Monument.Art Litho also produced a number of prints that document the history of Baltimore. These include "The Burning of Baltimore" (1861), which depicts the city's destruction during the Civil War, and "The Great Baltimore Fire" (1904), which shows the devastation caused by the city's worst fire.Art Litho continued to operate until the early 1980s. Its prints are now considered valuable historical documents, providing a glimpse into the past of Baltimore and other American cities.About Us MD Architectural Rescue has an ever changing collection of collectibles, petroliana, architectural and industrial artifacts, surplus, antiques, unusual decorative objects, new old stock, vintage automotive, re-purposed and rescued items.
