Illustrations: Frontispiece and twelve other colour plates with captioned guard-sheets, and numerous b/w illustrations, all by Arthur Rackham. Description: A very handsome volume of the first trade edition. Rebound in dark green full morocco, boards with gilt ruled borders and decorative corner-pieces, spine with gilt lettering and detailing. Top edge gilt. Binding remains sound and firm, sunned to brown on spine and, slightly, around edges of boards, light surface marks towards top of lower board. Endpapers and blanks replaced. The name 'José Laval' stamped in gilt to lower turn-in at front (binder or prior owner?). Text-block remains sound and firm. Address of St. Mary's Convent, Folkestone, stamped in blind to top corner of original front blank, a little ink scribbling to top margin of p. v (Introduction), and manuscript ownership statement to final page (again St. Mary's Convent). Foxing in places throughout, particularly to pages adjacent to the colour plates, though also occurring elsewhere. Colour plates generally clean and tidy, one (facing p.132) with a little edge-wear; one other (facing p.148) cropped at an angle along fore-edge-margin and slightly to lower edge.
