We offer a quality softcover book reprinting various "Foxy Grandpa" Sunday newspaper strips. All pages are printed in full color. Foxy cartoonist Carl E. Schultze signed his work under the name of "Bunny". His famous facsimile signature & bunny art are featured on cover & throughout inner contents. Foxy Grandpa (1900 to 1918) was one of the earliest comic strip characters. The front cover reads: "Including the latest pictures and startling surprises of Foxy Grandpa, By Bunny". The bottom of the fist page reads: "Copyright, 1902, by L. R. Hammersly Co. Copyright, 1905, by M. A. Donohue & Co. By Permission of the New York Herald, M. A. Donohue Co., Chicago". A very scarce & historically significant example for the early comic character collector. Condition is considered FAIR with miscellaneous surface/stain/edge wear. Two corner chips on right front cover (approx. 1.5" & 2" diagonally) with several edge tears inside (largest being approx. 3/4"). Moderate oxidation on binding staples. Linen partially loose from inner binding, but pages are still bound well on staples. Approx. 3" linen spine edge separation. Moderate ink / penciling on first title page & blank back cover. Colors and imagery remains bold, bright and eye-catching. Considering it's well over 100 years old, we feel this is a very displayable & serviceable example by most standards (see photos). Despite defects, this scarce book would make a great early showpiece for the discriminating FOXY GRANDPA and/or CLASSIC COMIC STRIP MEMORABILIA enthusiast.
