Description: Clean / Delail, and some environmenal damage This is a nice example of a Rare 1899-B, silver English trade dollar. This coin was minted at the mint in Bombay, INDIA, the mint mark is hard to see without a magnifying glass. The mintmark is a very small capital,"B" at the top of the spear. The coin has a mintage of 30,743,000 being mint in Bombay India. At this time England control all of India, so to make it easier for trading in the far east. The English silver trade dollars were minted mostly in Bombay which was much closer than having them minted in London. These coins were being used mostly for trading with China, at the 1800's to the 1930's and silver was the metal that bought the goods. The 4- main countries that minted and used silver trade dollars were England, U.S.A., France and Japan. The Japanese Trade dollars are the hardes to find and most costly. England minted the most coins and over many years. These trade dollars can be fun to look for, but be alert for fake coin. Any coins from a grading known house, such as PCGS, ANACS, or NGC should be fine as you can always check the Id. number on there internet sight. Most of these trade coins had some kind of picture design engraved on one side of the coin showing friendly people in ships or boats trading goods with native-born people. Really nice example of a less expensive silver 1899-B, English trade dollar. Well worth considering adding to a collection, or start a whole new collection. These type of coins had a short life in our history, but it's still interesting to hold one. This auction is almost over, I have drop the price down $10.00 that would be as low as I can go and still break even.
