Description: filled with numerous stories, poems, verses, rhymes for small children. Many of them with its own illustration (almost 200 of them). Contributions are by many well-known mid-century authors, poets and artists and in include those by Marion Douglas, Mrs. Clara Doty Bates (The Roller Skates), Clara G. Dolliver (Two Little Cats), Geo. S. Burleigh and many others. Illustrators by famous artists such as Carl Hirschberg, Lizbeth B. Comins and Frederick W. Freer. Really a treasure trove of children’s literature from the late 19th century. The book is in a clear thick plastic cover and is thus well-preserved. Gift inscription on front free endpaper reads: “From Papa to Carrie Rodman. So. Framingham, Mass. December 25, 1893.” Exceptionally well preserved! Gorgeously illustrated front and rear covers are protected in thick clear casing. They show some wear to the edges, but the colors are still beautiful. Interior: solid binding with hinges fully intact. Gift inscription dated 1891 (see descrpt.) on front free endpaper. Interior clean, unmarked and undamaged. I see a very, very occasional smudge. Really a wonderful exemplar of this Victorian classic.
