Eugne-Andr OUDIN (1810-1889), Sculpteur & Medallist. Pupil of Galle (engravings on steel), Petitot (sculpture) and Ingres (drawing). Awarded thePremier Grand Prix de Romede gravure en mdailles in 1831. Great medallists such as Chaplain, Ponscarme and Tasset learned their art under Oudin. When at the Villa Mdicis Oudin worked under Ingres who became director after Horace Vernet. Oudin came back in France in 1836 and married Antoinette-Jeanne, the daughter of Vauthier (the painter). Oudin was one of the first medallists to make struck medals by the help of a reducing machine, in the modern French style, having something of the soft appearance of a cast medal.
