May "THE DEFENDERS OF OUR UNION" This spectacular and extremely scarce cdv is one of the earlier civil war cdv's issued and features youthful portraits of ABRAHAM LINCOLN, ULYSSES. S. GRANT, ABNER DOUBLEDAY (Inventor of Baseball), KIT CARSON, E. M. STANTON (Secretary of War), GENERAL GEORGE McCLELLAN, E. E. ELLSWORTH (1st Civil War KIA - 1861) and 102 more Generals & Soldiers. Below the portraits the cdv reads "Published by C. F. May, 251 Greenwich St., N. Y." and below that is the title "THE DEFENDERS OF OUR UNION" and the last line reads "One Hundred and Nine Commanders of the United". The back lists the names of all the Commanders in order starting left to right at the bottom. Lincoln is #6, Stanton #7, McClellan #8, Doubleday #35, Grant #47, Carson #62, Ellsworth #90. This cdv has been slightly trimmed at the sides and bottom to fit in an album. The picture clarity is good. Free of any creases or damage.
