A commentary on the picturesque beauty of Southern Wales, particularly the scenery of the River Wye, as made by the author in the summer of 1770. This work includes references to the source of the Wye, Chepstow, Ragland Castle, Llandilo, and the road to Bristol. Written by William Gilpin, an English artist, cleric, schoolmaster, and author best known as a travel writer who originated the idea of the picturesque. CONDITION Bound in quarter cloth with patterned paper covered boards. Externally, worn with rubbing and chipping to the extremities. Light loss to the edges of the boards. The odd mark to the board. Hinges have been sympathetically reinforced with cloth tape. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are bright with light age toning and the odd spot.
