Description: Very rare vintage photograph print Photo Shows: DPA SERIES: HISTORY OF THE COLD WAR, SET-2 (HUNGARY): THE DEATH OF JOSEF STALIN (MARCH 6, 1953) RAISED THE HOPES OF RUSSIA'S UNWILLING ALLIES IN EASTERN EUROPE. BY 1956, POLAND AND HUNGARY WERE ABOUT TO TEST THE INTENTIONS OF THE NEW PREMIER, NIKITA KHRUSHCHEV. THAT SUMMER, THE POLES DEMANDED THE RETURN OF THEIR IMPRISONED LEADER WLADYSLAW GOMULKA, WHICH KHRUSHCHEV ALLOWED. IN OCTOBER, AFTER THE HUNGARIANS RIOTED IN BUDAPEST, THE RED ARMY ENTERED THE CITY. DURING A FEW DAYS OF STREET FIGHTING, THIRTY THOUSAND PEOPLE WERE KILLED. IN THE END, THE HUNGARIAN COMMUNIST GOVERNMENT WAS IN CONTROL. Very high quality photo print.
